SH Cutting, in Queen Street, was targeted by three people - one of them armed with a machete - on Monday afternoon.

Police said it is understood the offenders threatened staff, but fled empty-handed when security devices were activated at about 4.50pm.

Two men, aged 27 and 31, and two women, aged 20 and 29, were arrested on the A249 in Maidstone when police stopped a car at 6.25pm.

The four, from the Maidstone area, remain in police custody.
