When will the Scenic Railway at Dreamland reopen?

Dreamland's major attraction has been closed at the peak of the summer season.

The Scenic Railway opened in October last year, after a long awaited return to the park.

However, it has now been closed for more than a week due to essential repair work.

There could be further claims over the Scenic Railway

Dreamland CEO Eddie Kemsley said: "The Scenic Railway’s lift rope requires replacement.

"Due to the ride's vintage nature the bespoke new lift rope needs to be replaced by a specialist engineer and unlike more modern rides with off the shelf parts, for a ride such as Dreamland's Grade II* Scenic Railway, this procurement process takes a little longer.

"Our engineering team are working tirelessly to secure a date for the rope’s replacement and get the ride up and running asap."

The Octopus Garden is also closed until further notice for repair work after the heavy rain.

Built in 1920, the Scenic Railway was Britain’s oldest surviving rollercoaster and the project to bring back the ride had many twists and turns.

In December 2014, the wooden attraction blew down in high winds and in April 2008 a major fire ravaged the iconic structure.
