Major routes through Thanet will be closed for up to four weeks as part of a big resurfacing project.

Resurfacing on the A299 Canterbury Road East will see the road be closed in both directions between Lord of the Manor interchange and the junction with Royal Harbour Approach.

Overnight closures are planned from Monday, January 14 for six consecutive nights from 8pm until 6am.

A number of road closures will be put in place

Other stretches of the A299 will also face 8pm until 6am closures, but work is expected to take up to four weeks - including at weekends.

The stretch from St Nicholas Roundabout to Monkton Roundabout will be the first phase of the closure, as engineers work to resurface and strengthen the carriageway.

The second phase will be from Monkton Road to Minster Roundabout.

Only one section of road will be closed at one time, but the actual sequence and timings of the closures are yet to be finalised.

Kent Highways says "every effort" will be made to get the work completed in time.

Elsewhere, the B2190 Minster Road will be shut between A299 Minster Roundabout and the junction with B2190 Spitfire Way.

Overnight closures are pencilled in for three nights from Thursday, January 24.

Further resurfacing work on the A299 Royal Harbour Approach will result in night-time closures for three nights from January 18.

The Thanet road closures do no tend there as roadworks on the A28 in Westgate will spark delays due to temporary traffic lights for four days from today (Friday).
