Major search operation at Pegwell Bay after fully-dressed person seen entering sea

A major search operation was launched following reports of a person entering the sea fully-dressed.

The RNLI, police and the coastguard were called to Pegwell Bay, between Ramsgate and Sandwich, shortly before 9pm last night.

The Ramsgate lifeboat was launched following a request from the coastguard following the report.

Crews searched around Pegwell Bay and along the River Stour.

A social media post by RNLI Ramsgate states: "A second report then came in that the person may have been seen walking inland from Pegwell Bay.

"The area was then fully searched with mobile coastguard units, police and coastguard helicopter.

"Once all assets were happy that no one fitting the description was spotted, either in the water or shoreside, the coastguard closed the incident down."
