Man abuses Margate railway station staff before evading police on tracks

A man who abused rail staff caused train services to be cancelled after he evaded police by fleeing along the tracks.

Power to the lines was switched off at about 7.30pm yesterday following the incident near Margate station.

A police helicopter is also understood to have been scrambled to the area to assist with the search.

British Transport Police were called at 7.12pm to a report of a man being abusive towards the station staff.

He then entered the tracks and is reported to have begun walking towards Westgate.

Officers attended and carried out a search of the surrounding area - but the man was nowhere to be found.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
