Ramsgate man accused of strangling his own mother

A man has been accused of beating and intentionally strangling his own mother and destroying furniture in her living room.

David Henry, of Clements Road, Ramsgate, appeared at Folkestone Magistrates' Court charged with attacking his mother, Deborah Atkinson.

The 35-year-old allegedly went to Ms Atkinson’s property in Ramsgate on Monday, March 13, and punched her in the mouth and strangled her.

He is also accused of smashing a window and side table at the property.

Dressed in a grey tracksuit, the defendant pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal damage, assault by beating and intentional strangulation.

He was bailed on the condition he makes no contact with Ms Atkinson and goes nowhere near her home.

District Judge Justin Barron sent the case to Canterbury Crown Court, where Henry is due to appear on April 17.
