Man arrested for suspected arson after fire at Tesco in Canterbury Road, Margate

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire at a Tesco store.

Police were called to Tesco Express in Canterbury Road, Margate, at about 6am today.

They arrived to find a fire inside the building, and called Kent Fire and Rescue Service which sent two fire engines to the scene.

A police spokesman said: "The road was closed for a short time while work to extinguish the fire was ongoing.

"A 32-year old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson, and remains in custody."

A Tesco spokesman said: “We are supporting the police and fire service with their investigations into an incident at our Margate Express store.”

Ambulance crews also attended the scene this morning.
A spokesman said: "A male patient was treated at the before being taken to QEQM Hospital."
