Jamie Murphy, 22, jailed for rape and sexual assault on woman in Margate flat

A 22-year-old man has been sent to prison for five years for raping a woman in Margate.

Jamie Murphy from Redhill, Surrey, was found guilty of rape and sexual assault when he appeared at Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday.

He met his victim in a flat in Margate on Sunday, December 28, 2015 where he raped and sexually assaulted her.

Detective Constable Amy Ezzi said: "We are pleased with this result and I really hope this will help to act as a deterrent to offenders and provide some encouragement and reassurance to victims.

"It has been difficult for the victim and I would like to thank her for her bravery throughout the investigation."
