A predator who crept into a 14-year-old girl’s bedroom and attacked her has pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child.

Steven Baker, of Mere Gate, Margate, got into his victim's bed while she was sleeping during a house party in June 2013.

He then carried out a sexual assault which lasted "several hours". She had been too scared to object and pretended to sleep until he left.

The following day, the victim reported the attack to her family and Baker was arrested.

He claimed he had been drunk and did not remember carrying out the assault.

Baker has now been jailed for 18 months and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years after appearing at Canterbury Crown Court.

After the sentencing, Detective Constable Neil Martin said: “I am pleased with the result and it shows that due to the victim’s bravery in coming forward and reporting this incident we have had a successful prosecution of a predatory offender who seemed to show little remorse for what he had done."
