Police have taken a teenager into custody after finding a set of martial arts nunchucks in a bag.

The 15-year-old was arrested in Broadstairs this afternoon on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon.

He was among a group of young people on the pier who officers spoke to at around 2pm.

They found the nunchucks after searching a bag found next to the group.

Officers have been stepping up patrols in the town after a spate of antisocial behaviour, especially on the beach, including fighting between groups of youths.

The arrest was posted on the Kent Police Twitter account where it was said that beat officers were "proactively tackling groups causing nuisance across the isle".

The youth remains in custody this evening while inquiries continue.
