Ramsgate: Ravensgate Arms to re-open at the end of August

A Ramsgate micropub, which was forced to shut its doors in May, has announced it is re-opening at the end of the month.

The Ravensgate Arms, in King Street, closed after a licensing sub-committee of Thanet council reviews the licence and decided to revoke it.

The pub was originally opened by Roger Bell back in 2014 and he has taken back over as general manager.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Mr Bell wrote: “The pub will remain a free house and will be host to the best beer, wine and food the world has to offer.

“We will offer up to 10 keg lines and 3 cask lines served through hand pulls. The cellar will undergo a huge transformation which will directly result in better beer.

“We will have the best beer in Thanet bar none (maybe the Montefiore Arms). The wine will no longer be an after-thought, we’ll treat the wines we stock with the same scrutiny as we do the beers.

“The builders will be finished renovating the toilets and bringing the building up to code in the next couple of weeks, then we clean up and decorate, and then we open.

“I know the wait seems cruel but we’re making a pub we hope will last for many years to come.

“So please save the date, August 31st, and join us for a drink.”

The pub’s licence was revoked after a police visit in March, where officers found the site was trading three hours later than its licence allowed.

When officers re-visited the site a week later, the site was also found to be showing unregulated entertainment and was still open outside regulations.

The Facebook post also said: “Under the leadership of Markus J Hearnipuss the pub became a real part of the community, and when it closed in May, many of you felt like you lost more than just a pub.

“The landlord received many offers from other publicans and breweries but ultimately he chose us.”
