Elderly man robbed in Grosvenor Gardens, Margate

An elderly man was knocked to the ground as he struggled with a thief in a late-night robbery.

The 77-year-old victim was walking along Grosvenor Gardens in Margate when he was approached from behind and grabbed.

After tussling with the robber, he fell to the floor. He then noticed his wallet containing cash had been taken.

The robbery happened near the postbox opposite St Johns Church at 1am on Thursday.

The victim was left shocked but unhurt.

The offender, who ran off towards the High Street, is described as a man in his late 20s and of medium build. He was wearing a hooded top.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the robbery or anyone matching the description of the suspect at the time.

They are asked to call police on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/18352/16.
