Police hunt man after arson attempt in St Lawrence High Street, Ramsgate

Police are hunting a man who set fire to the porch of a home as people inside slept.

Officers have released CCTV footage of a person they want to speak to after the suspected arson attack in High Street, St Lawrence in Ramsgate.

The suspect has a greying beard and was wearing a black hat and gloves, a blue coat and light-coloured trousers and was carrying a dark-coloured bag.

Investigating officer police constable Steve East believes it is an isolated incident.

He said: "We believe the fire was started deliberately while the occupants were sleeping.

"Fortunately the fire only caused damage to the door frame and tiling, but clearly this could have potentially been much worse.

"We are very keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who recognises the man in the image."

The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, October 20.
