Police are opposing an application made by one pub to extend their opening hours for Christmas celebrations.

The Goose, in Harbour Street, Ramsgate, has made an application to stay open until 3am on Christmas Eve and until 2am on Christmas day, with a maximum of 250 in the building at any one time - including staff.

On behalf of police, chief inspector Sharon Adley, said: "The police are not supporting the TENs application for this event.

"The premises are in a residential area with many calls for antisocial behaviour and crime commonly linked to this immediate area.

"The premises licence already allows specific conditions for extensions during key holiday times.

"This will have a significant impact on local residents.

"At this stage the police cannot support this TENs."

The council's licensing sub committee will make a decision on the request on Tuesday, December 19.
