Inquest opening after Swathi Tirumalagiri, 26, died at QEQM after being rescued from the sea in Margate

A 26-year-old woman who died two days after being rescued from the sea has been named.

Swathi Tirumalagiri was pulled from the water at Westbrook Bay, Margate, and was taken to QEQM where she died two days later on Wednesday, October 4, in the intensive care unit.

She was born in India but lived in Ilford, London, with her husband.

An inquest into her death, which opened today at Canterbury Magistrates' court, heard a post-mortem examination was carried out on October 9 and the cause of death was given as a hypoxic brain injury and drowning.

A full inquest is due to be heard on Tuesday, March 6 at Margate Magistrates' court.
