POLICE are investigating two suspected arson attacks in Thanet (Peter Barnett writes). The first happened at about 1.45pm on Saturday at the rear of The Square, Birchington, when the fire brigade tackled a blaze in a storage area at the rear of a car workshop.

The second fire occurred at around 10.40pm on the same day at Lancaster Close, Ramsgate. The owner of a yellow moped looked out of his flat and saw the vehicle was alight. The scooter, valued at £1,500, was burnt out.

Police say the fires are not connected. Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigating officer, PC Andy Eley, on 01843 222192.
