The UK’s first White Lives Matter march is under way in Margate.

Dozens of far right protesters have descended on the seaside town to walk from the train station to Turner Contemporary gallery.

The march has been organised by extremist East Kent English Patriots, whose members were also involved in the Dover protests.

Thanet Stand Up to Racism, which has branded White Lives Matter a racist organisation, has prepared to oppose the march and members of the Kent Anti-Racism Network have also gathered in the town.

Mounted police have been drafted in and dozens of officers are lining the route, in a bid to avoid scenes such as those in Dover earlier this year.

Businesses along the route, including Wetherspoons' The Mechanical Elephant and the Turner Contemporary gallery have drafted in extra security.

Also taking place is music festival Margate Rocks Against Racism, which organisers hope will celebrate diversity and promote mutual respect.
