Police helicopter used early this morning after concerns of a man in Thanet

Many residents in Margate and Westbrook were woken in the early hours of this morning by a police helicopter.

People took to social media to report that they could hear the helicopter at around 2am.

The police have since confirmed that they were searching for a man after concerns of his welfare.

The man has since been found 'safe and well'.

A Police spokesman said: "We received concerns for the welfare of a man in the Fort Crescent area of Margate at 11.30pm on Friday, August 4.

"Officers have conducted a search of the area, with the assistance of the National Police Air Service and the Coastguard.

"The man has now been located safe and well."

The noise of the helicopter appeared to wake many people up.
