The weekend’s wet weather didn’t stop play at the Sound Island festival – especially for Rita Ora.

The singer-songwriter promised fans she would get wet with them at the start of her set.

True to her word, the 22-year-old left the stage at Quex Park, Birchington, to party with festival-goers at the front in lashing rain.

She performed several of her most famous songs and thanked the crowds for their support in the stormy conditions, saying that she remembered doing the same once for a band she really liked.

Another performer who was very humble was former X Factor winner James Arthur, who performed earlier in the afternoon.

Rain had stopped by the time headline act, Plan B, took to the stage, but some fans, soaking wet and cold, had decided to leave.

The English rapper, singer-songwriter and actor, was introduced by an impressive beatbox act before opening with I Am The Narrator.

The artist, real name Ben Drew, quickly followed up with Prayin’ from his second album, The Defamation of Strickland Banks.

The following day saw the sun burst through the clouds and revellers were able to throw off their wet-weather gear and soak up the rays while listening to acts including Union J, Lawson and headliner Jessie J.

Music lover Carlie Pearlman, from Westgate, attended the festival on both days with friends.

She said: “On Saturday, we left before Plan B even came on, because we were completely drenched, but it didn’t stop me from having a really good time.

“I really only went that day to see Rita Ora and she was amazing so I didn’t mind. But Jessie J on Sunday was unbelievable. She connected with the crowd and her performance was faultless. We had the best night.”
