An elderly woman was injured when she was dragged along the road as she clung on desperately to her handbag after being attacked and robbed in Ramsgate.

The 66-year-old was in St Patricks Road, on her way home at 9.20pm, when she saw a man running towards her.

She thought he was a jogger and moved out of the way to let him pass.

Instead, the thug grabbed her handbag with both hands and pulled the victim to the floor as he tried to pull it from her grip.

She shouted for help and was then dragged along the pavement as she held on to her handbag, before it eventually slipped from her hands.

The bag contained two mobile phones, bank cards and a set of keys.

The woman received cuts and bruises to her hands, elbows and hip.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incident on the night of Tuesday, December 3.

Kent Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen the robbery or who has information that may help track down the offender.

The attacker has been described as a white teenage male, around 5ft 8in. He was believed to be wearing a grey hooded top and white trainers.

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting reference ZY/36798/13, or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
