A dangerous robber who stole £10,000 from a store during a "terrifying" raid has been jailed.

Richard Campbell stormed into the One Stop Shop in Northdown Road, Cliftonville through the back door and interrogated a woman until she told him where the safe was.

He then gave her instructions to follow and managed to get away with £10,000 in cash and a number of scratchcards.

Using number plate recognition and CCTV cameras, police traced a blue Vauxhall Signum seen in Margate on the same day - Sunday, August 23 last year - to Campbell.

Officers raided his home in Tooting and found a holdall bag, a scarf and a high visibility top, all of which were seen on the CCTV footage of the robbery.

Campbell, 33, was arrested and charged on September 9, and found guilty following a trial at the Old Bailey on March 16.

If activated this poorly-conceived measure would mean the Press paying the costs of both sides even if it fended off a claim for libel or invasion of privacy

He has now been sentenced to 13 years in prison for robbery, and a further three years for intent to supply heroin.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Clive Horne said: "Campbell is a dangerous individual who showed a lack of consideration over his actions. His crimes were nasty, subjecting the victim to a terrifying ordeal, as well as greedy and self-centred.

"A number of officers based at Margate police station worked tirelessly to identify, arrest and subsequently charge Campbell. I'm pleased he will be out of the way and unable to cause any more distress."
