Birchington crash sees car roof cut off to free person trapped inside

Fire crews cut the roof off a car in order to free someone trapped inside following a crash.

Two white hatchbacks were badly damaged after colliding in Birchington at about 8.30am this morning and one person was taken to hospital.

Crews from three fire engines had to use hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the door and roof of one of the cars in order to free a person stuck inside.

Paramedics treated two injured people at the scene, at the intersection of Shottendane Road and the Birchington Vale Holiday Park entrance/exit road.

One person was taken to William Harvey Hospital for further treatment.

Police also attended the incident.
