Police close Northdown Hill in Broadstairs after teenage cyclist seriously hurt in crash with car

A teenage boy was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a car while riding his bike.

The crash involving a black Vauxhall Meriva happened in Northdown Hill, Broadstairs, near the junction with Pearson's Way, at 5.40pm yesterday.

The cyclist, a 17-year-old, was taken to a London hospital in a serious condition.

The road was closed for five and a half hours while officers from Kent Police's serious collision investigation unit attended.

Police are now appealing for witnesses, and particularly want to speak to a driver who is believed to have been waiting to exit Pearson's Way at the time of the crash.
