A Kent prisoner is set to appear in court this morning charged with attempting to murder a prison guard in a suspected extremist attack at a maximum security jail.

Baz Macaulay Hockton, 26, formerly of Wellington Crescent, Ramsgate, has been serving time since 2016 and was residing at 400-inmate HMP Whitemoor on January 9 when the attack happened.

He, together with 24-year-old Londoner Brusthom Ziamani, is alleged to have set upon the officer when cells were unlocked.

One member of staff at the Cambridgeshire prison sustained stab and slash wounds to his head, chest and face.

Others were injured as they rushed to his aid and Ziamani is also charged with ABH and assault in relation to two other guards.

Both will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today.

The Met Police confirmed the investigation is being led by Counter Terrorism Command.
