The artist who took 20 life-size effigies on a train to Margate is favourite to lift the prestigious Turner Prize this week.

The Turner Contemporary gallery in the Thanet seaside town has been exhibiting the finalists since the end of September with big crowds expected this weekend prior to the winner being named at a special ceremony at the venue on Tuesday night.

And the bookmakers have Oscar Murillo as the 2-1 favourite to be handed the prize.

His display of effigies perched on church pews which the artist says explores the themes of labour and exploitation.

The figures travelled down to Margate on a train - which each effigy having their own seat.

According to William Hill the odds for each nominated artist in the notoriously difficult to predict contest are:

2/1 - Oscar Murillo

5/2 - Helen Cammock

5/2 - Tai Shani

3/1 - Lawrence Abu Hamdan

The winner will be presented with the prize by Edward Enninful, editor-in-chief of British Vogue.

The exhibition of shortlisted artists will continue at the Turner Contemporary until Sunday, January 12. It is free to enter.
