A lorry became wedged down a suburban street after failing to notice signs warning it was closed.

The massive B&M truck was trapped behind a lamppost after attempting to turn around in Ramsgate.

A video taken on Saturday afternoon shows a resident unsuccessfully attempting to tow the vehicle out of its tight spot.

The truck became stuck after heading down Haine Road after the driver had not realised it had been shut for several days due to a burst water main.

Upon realising they could not continue with their planned route, the driver attempted to turn around but then found themselves unable to make the turn in the narrow street.

An eyewitness said: “Signage for the road closure was extremely inadequate as multiple lorries and vehicles continued to pass the road closed sign.

“Lorries were having to reverse back once noticing the road was closed.

“Once the B&M lorry got stuck I moved the ‘road ahead closed’ sign into the street and added some cones to deter more lorries from doing the same.

“The driver who attempted to help him free was a neighbour from across the road, who is an ex-HGV driver. Eventually the B&M lorry had to have a wrecker called out.”

After two hours of unsuccessful attempts to dislodge the large vehicle, a recovery team was called out to forcefully free the trucker.

Haine Road has been closed at the junction with Spratling Lane, both ways from Leigh Road to St Johns Avenue since Friday.

The works are scheduled to be completed and the road reopen this Thursday.
