After almost four years at the helm at the Dreamland Heritage Trust, its chairman is stepping down.

Bernie Morgan joined the Margate-based charity in 2016, but is now due to retire in May after "clarifying the direction and role of the Trust".

During her time with DHT, Bernie strengthened the board of the charity and led the way in building strong relationships with stakeholders, including Sands Heritage, Thanet District Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

She also spearheaded a successful fundraising drive to enable the Trust to take on exciting new challenges.

"Chairing the Trust has been a really exciting experience.," Bernie said. "I have enjoyed every minute of it.

"Now we have the funding and staff behind us and are all working to a clear direction, it is time to retire and handover a strong Trust to a new chair.
"I would like to thank my fellow board members, staff past and present and our dedicated volunteers for all their support and look forward to future developments of the Trust."

The Trust was established in 2009 following a successful campaign to save Dreamland - the country’s oldest amusement park.

It is dedicated to preserving the heritage of the park for the community and future generations.

The charity is now on the lookout for a new chairman of trustees, who will not receive financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed.

A spokesman for the Trust said: "The successful candidate will chair four board meetings per year and will be expected to have regular meetings with the development manager and attend project management, volunteer and other working group meetings as they see fit and also represent the charity at various events and meetings with key stakeholders.

"To be successful, you will understand the role of a charity chair, be comfortable with the expectations in terms of time and responsibility and be passionate about Dreamland and Margate."
