Ukip leader Nigel Farage will make a final push for votes at the European election when he leads a campaign rally in Margate today.

Security is expected to be tight for the event at the Winter Gardens and organisers anticipate it will attract an audience of several hundred supporters.

It will be the last major event for the party ahead of Thursday’s poll.

Mr Farage was attacked by protestors on a visit to Thanet in January and was recently egged while out campaigning in Nottingham.

He has since had security guards at his side on the campaign trail, something he says he hates but has become a necessity.

Mr Farage's choice of Thanet for the party’s final campaign event before voters go to the polls is being regarded as significant.

The party has high hopes of grabbing seats from the Conservatives, who currently have two of the ten MEPs in the south east region. Polls indicate they are expected to fare poorly.

But there remains speculation that Mr Farage is eyeing up Thanet South for the general election in 2015, although he is also said to be weighing up standing in Folkestone and Hythe.

In addition to Mr Farage, other speakers will be Diane Jones, also a candidate for the south east, and Ray Finch.
