A micropub manager has quipped that he hopes to 'ease the pain' of Brexit negotiations as his micropub's bitters go on sale in Parliament.

Beer brewed at The Four Candles Alehouse in Broadstairs is being served up to MPs, Lords and staff at the Strangers' Bar in the Houses of Parliament.

The Commons bar has six casks of Four Candles east Kent bitter on offer after South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay arranged for it to be sold there.

Of the 326 brews the micropub has created, East Kent Gouldings and Target hops are at the heart of the full-bodied 4.4% bitter being offered.

Four Candles boss Mike Beaumont said: "It was suggested a while back by our MP Craig Mackinlay, who put a word in with the bar's manager.

"We're hoping that a drop of the good stuff will ease the pain of the Brexit negotiations.

"It's probably a one-off as the bars in Parliament offer lots of different beers, but this opportunity is a first for The Four Candles Alehouse.

"It was a great surprise to be asked and a privilege to be able to send out beer here."

As Britain's smallest brewpub, the Sowell Street outlet can only brew 11 casks of each batch.

Mr Mackinlay added: "I'm delighted for Mike that Four Candles' beer is being sold in the House of Commons Strangers' Bar.

"I hope that this opportunity for a local brew to be served in Parliament sets Mike up for further success.

"Mike's excellent ale was very well received by all who tried it.

"I was very pleased to help a growing and successful business from Broadstairs."
