Woman airlifted to hospital after being hit by car in Newington Road, Ramsgate

A woman has been airlifted to a London hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Ramsgate.

The incident happened between the A255 roundabout and Ramsgate Fire Station just before 12.30pm.

The collision happened in Newington Road, Ramsgate, and a woman has been airlifted to hospital (61330971)

The road was closed both ways in the aftermath, causing heavy traffic in the area.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 12.30pm on Wednesday, December 14 to Newington Road, Ramsgate following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

"The female pedestrian has been taken to a London hospital.

"The road has now reopened."

An ambulance service spokesman added: "The ambulance service was called shortly before 12.30pm today to reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle in Newington Road, Ramsgate.

"Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by the Air Ambulance Service.

"A woman was treated at the scene before being airlifted to hospital in London with serious injuries."
