Injured woman pulled out of burning building in Margate

A probe is underway after an injured woman was rescued from a burning building.

A flat in Margate High Street went up in flames at 5.30am prompting a strong emergency response and neighbours to evacuate.

Firefighters rescued the woman from the building and gave her medical treatment until paramedics arrived.

A probe into the cause of the inferno has now been launched.

A fire service spokesman said: “We were called to Margate High Street, to reports of a fire in a flat.

“Occupants of neighbouring flats were evacuated, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to tackle the flames.

“High-pressure fans were used to clear the property of smoke.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.”

A police spokesman added: “We were called at 5.45am on Thursday 21 December to a report of a fire at an address in Margate High Street.

“Officers attended along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service, who evacuated residents from the building and extinguished the fire.

“South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and assessed people for injuries.

“A woman was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

“Residents have since returned to the building and officers remain at the scene.”
