Margate skipper Charlie Allen has left the club by mutual agreement.

The former Gillingham man’s contract expired at the end of last season, with the midfielder having played a major role in helping Gate clinch promotion, beating Hendon 1-0 in the Ryman League, Premier Division play-off final last month.

Allen, 22-year son of former Gills boss Martin, scored 13 goals last season, but missed two months of the campaign due to a knee injury.

The Oxford-based player said: “I spoke to Terry about the travelling, and my situation, and we both mutually agreed that it was best we go our separate ways.

“I would personally like to thank everyone at Margate, and I will always have a soft spot for the club. It is destined for great things and I hope our paths cross again soon.”

Gate boss Terry Brown added: “Charlie had a magnificent season. He made a huge contribution, despite the injury, which ensured we won promotion.

“I am sure everyone would like to wish Charlie all the best in whatever his next move is.”
