Margate striker Jordan Chiedozie trying to claim both goals against Herne Bay

Margate striker Jordan Chiedozie is claiming he scored both FA Cup goals on Saturday – despite the first clearly being an own goal.

Chiedozie took his tally for the season to six but he think it should be seven after the ball went in off keeper Ben Hunter when the striker’s efforts hit both the crossbar and post.

“Definitely two goals – I’m claiming that!” said Chiedozie. “I hit the target, it took a deflection and went in.

“If it had taken two deflections then maybe not but it only took one so it’s a goal to me.”

Asked if his team-mates had suggested he cannot claim a goal which hits the keeper after coming back off the post, Chiedozie added: “They wouldn’t dare try to take goals off me!”

The Margate striker was just happy to go through, however, after a tricky tie against Bostik South Herne Bay.

“When I made the header I thought it was in,” he said. “To be fair, I thought I was going to get smashed (with the rebound) so I took my eye off the ball a bit, I can’t lie. But it still went in so I’m just happy to get the goals and get through to the next round as Herne Bay definitely had a bit about them.

“They’ve won a lot of goals, scored a lot of goals and they are a bright young team. We never under-estimated them.”

Chiedozie backed his strike partner Frannie Collin and wants to add more assists to his own game to repay the service he is getting.

“Frannie is quality to play with,” said Chiedozie. “He is always putting them on a plate for me and I just have to finish them off.

“I am trying to return him the favour but I can’t quite get it to him yet. Playing alongside him you get quality service and he knows that, he brags about it all the time.

“At half-time I was just concentrating on getting us through as a team. Once we got the goals the game opened up for us. We probably should have got more but it’s nice to get on the scoresheet.”

As for Monday’s fourth qualifying round cup draw, Chiedozie said: “We’ve got a quality side with a lot of clean sheets and attacking wise we’re creating chances.

“It doesn’t really matter who we get, I back us to give a good account of ourselves and see where it goes.

“Scoring goals as a striker is all you want do, the FA Cup is special and there is an extra buzz.”
