Ramsgate FC striker Rory Smith has been training with Aberdeen

Ramsgate striker Rory Smith has been training with Aberdeen.

The teenager was on trial with the Scottish Premiership side last week but has chosen to remain in Kent with the Rams for now.

Other big clubs are watching Smith and head coach Lloyd Blackman is delighted his young players are starting to get recognition.

“Aberdeen came in for Rory a couple of weeks ago,” Blackman said.

“Rory went up there for a trial and they liked him immensely but Rory felt it wasn’t quite the right move for him at this stage, so pulled himself away from the trial.

“That shows a lot of character, realising it’s not quite the move he would be after, even though it’s a club with the stature and history of Aberdeen.

“I think it’s a marvellous coup for us as a football club that teams such as Aberdeen are coming down to look at these young players.

“It’s a feather in the cap to what we’re trying to achieve and credit to the players that they’re attracting that sort of attention.

“If a club such as Aberdeen are interested in a player, everyone’s senses become heightened and players move to the front of their scouting list.

“I’ve heard there will be more clubs looking and it gives an opportunity for our players to express themselves.
