Margate have announced a trio of key players who are staying on for another season.

Manager Jay Saunders - who has a new no.2 - has captain Ben Swift, defender Jay Porter and striker Noel Leighton all on board for a 2020/21 campaign.

Margate captain Ben Swift has committed for another season at the club

The manager was pleased to have got the process of building his team started.

He told the club’s website: “I’m really pleased to have Swifty, Jay and Noel secured for next season. They are important players and characters to have in the dressing room too.

“As my captain, it is great to have Swifty commit to us, he plays a massive role for us on and off the pitch.

“In my opinion Jay was our player-of-the-season last year so to have retained him is a massive plus.

“Noel was one of my first signings when I became manager. I know what he brings to our team and what he can deliver at this level.”

Midfielder Adem Ramadan, meanwhile, has announced on Twitter that he is leaving the Hartsdown Park club.

He wrote: “My time at Margate has come to an end. Just want to thank the fans and the club for all the support. It was a pleasure, especially having the chance to play under Jay Saunders and Mike Sandmann. All the best for next season.”

Chris Sessengnon is also leaving as Margate say they were unable to reach an agreement with the player.

The club, meanwhile, are asking fans and the community to back their ambitious stadium plans as the consultation process has now begun.
