Margate sign former East Grinstead striker Dan Thompson and Sevenoaks winger James Bessey-Saldanha

Margate have made a couple of new signings including a potential fans’ favourite.

Boss Jay Saunders has brought in striker Dan Thompson and tricky winger James Bessey-Saldanha.

Bessey-Saldanha will be familiar to Kent football fans after playing for Bearsted and then making the step up to at Sevenoaks Town.

He has already been in action for Margate during some recently friendly matches and Saunders has liked what he has seen.

Speaking to the club, Saunders said: “He’s played in every one of our run-outs in recent weeks and his potential and ability is something I’m really excited by and think supporters will be too.

“James is a quick, tricky player who will cause opposition problems and I think our fans will really take to him at Hartsdown Park.”

Thompson, 27, has promotion experience, enjoying success with former clubs Hampton & Richmond and Braintree Town.

The former Portsmouth youngster has more recently played for Kingstonian and East Grinstead.

Commenting on the newcomer, Saunder said: “He’s a great addition and fits the mould of the kind of striker I want in our team. Dan’s a player I feel we can get the best out of and can enjoy a really successful career at Hartsdown Park.

"Dan has plenty of experience winning promotion, not just at our level but the level above and that will be vital for us."
