Margate manager Jay Saunders has completed his first two signings.

Defender Ben Swift and midfielder Jordy Robins have both signed deals for the 2019/20 season.

Saunders has wasted no time getting to work after being unveiled as the Gate's new manager on Monday.

Leaving the club are Alex Flisher, Frannie Collin, Tom Mills and Jack Paxman.

Former Maidstone defender Swift, this week named in Kent Online's Team of the Year, said he is looking forward to building on last season when his performances helped the Gate finish 12th in Bostik Premier.

The 22-year-old, who was once at Aston Villa, said: "I’m really pleased to have signed for the new season.

"Last year was a challenging campaign but one I felt I developed and learnt a lot from.

"It was nice to get a place in the team of the year and something to build upon.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to carry on where I left off, work with Jay and the group he brings together and prepare for the new season.”

Central midfielder Robins flourished under Saunders during the latter's spell as caretaker boss and admitted it was an easy decision to sign on the dotted line.

He explained: “I mentioned last season how much I enjoyed playing under Jay and the confidence he instilled into the way I play my game.

“Being part of the team during that unbeaten spell was fantastic and is encouraging for the future and something I wanted to be a part of.”

Of the departing players the club said: "We would like to thank the quartet for their efforts and commitment during their spells at HDP and wish each all the best for the next chapter of their career.

"Negotiations and conversations remain ongoing with remaining members of last season’s squad and supporters will be kept up to date with the latest comings and goings throughout the off season."
