POLICE are reminding residents to be on their guard after an elderly woman had £800 in cash stolen after letting bogus callers into her flat.

A male and female, both believed to be in their early 20s, knocked on the door of the 88-year-old pensioner's flat in Royal West Kent Avenue, Tonbridge, between 6.30 and 7pm on Friday.

They claimed to be fitting a washing machine in a neighbouring flat and said they needed to come in and turn off the water. After they left the woman found the cash and cheque books missing.

Anyone with any information is asked to telephone West Kent Police on 01732 771055.
