Body of man found in River Medway in Tonbridge

A man's body has been found in a river.

Police made the devastating discovery in Tonbridge this morning.

Officers were called to a section of the river Medway off Cannon street just after 8am.

Fire services and paramedics were also called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at around 8.05am today after the body of a man was found in the River Medway, near Cannon Lane in Tonbridge.

"Officers attended along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service.

"The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will now be prepared for the coroner."
