Tonbridge school girls Katie Moon and Anna Wessels from Tonbridge Grammar School return from Taekwondo competitions with medals

Two Tonbridge Grammar School pupils have returned from national Taekwondo competitions after both bagging a medal.

Katie Moon, 12, competed in the Mighty Fist ITF Taekwondo European Cup in Budapest, Hungary where there were 300 competitors from all over Europe and Israel.

Participants are divided in age, weigh and belt categories and compete against each other.

Katie Moon won a bronze medal

This was Katie's first European competition representing her Taekwondo Association, Vision Taekwondo Academy.

She was up against some very strong teams, especially from the Russian Federation, Bulgaria, Poland, Ireland, Hungary and Israel.

She fought very hard and was successful in winning a bronze medal in her category for sparring, being beaten by a formidable Russian black belt in the semi-finals.

Katie’s success is hot on the heels of Anna Wessels from year 9.

Anna Wessels won a gold medal

Anna, 14 who studies Taekwondo at the Synergy TKD school in Tonbridge under Mr Tim Dunn travelled to Motherwell to participate in the Scottish Taekwondo Open 2014 competition, held on September, 27.

Anna, who competed in the combined red and black belt category for girls and left the competition with a gold medal.

Anna will next representing her School, Synergy TKD a in the United Kingdom TKD Open in November.
