Two men have been sentenced after appearing in court accused of tampering with a cash machine in a town centre.

Police were called to a location outside a supermarket in Angel Lane, Tonbridge, at around 12am on Monday.

It was suspected attempts had been made to insert card capture devices into a cash machine.

Officers stopped a vehicle a short time later in St John’s Road, Tunbridge Wells and arrested the driver and passenger.

Razvan Diculescu, 26, and Viorel Dida, 28, both admitted one charge of possessing or controlling an article for use in fraud.

Both men are of no fixed address and were remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today.

The pair had used a "Lebanese loop" during their attempt to prime the cash machine for an attempt to defraud users.

The loop stops the card from being returned to an ATM user and, while the victim goes for help, the con artists withdraw as much cash as possible.

Dicilescu and Dida were both handed 12-month community orders and told they must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
