Kent Fire and Rescue has warned of the dangers of walking near rivers after a pensioner fell into the River Medway last night.
The man, in his 60s, was walking home from the shops when he fell in the freezing water.
A spokesman said: "We are urging people to make sure they stick to the paths. The river bank is very slippery and steep. The water is freezing and a fall could be life threatening.
Ambulance services confirm they checked over the man at the scene before taking him to Tunbridge Wells Hospital as a precaution.
