Tonbridge Angels are edging closer to Ryman League Premier Division safety.

They came from behind twice to draw 2-2 at Witham Town on Tuesday night, keeping the Essex side seven points below them in the relegation dogfight.

Angels are 11 points clear of the bottom four with 11 games left, although manager Steve McKimm isn’t resting on his laurels just yet.

He said: “I’m never comfortable. We’ve got points on the board, which a lot of teams would like rather than playing catch-up. They’ve got games in hand but they could end up playing Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday, which is a lot of games for part-time football clubs.

“It’s going to be difficult for the teams below us to win the amount of games they need. But we still need a few more wins.”

Lee Carey missed an early penalty at Witham but Marvin Williams and Joe Taylor scored to earn Angels a point.

Tonbridge are now looking to make it three games unbeaten when they welcome Harrow on Saturday. They start the weekend third-bottom and 12 points adrift of Angels.

Keeper Tom Hadler is set to play on Saturday after joining on loan from Gillingham until the end of the season.
