Long-serving Angels youth coach sacked

BARRY Jeffrey has been dismissed as Tonbridge Angels under-18s manager for "continued misconduct".

The boss of the Southern Youth League side had been involved with the club, mainly the youth set up, for more than 15 years.

In a letter to the club’s fan forum, Jeffrey claimed his decision to leave Jack Moore, step son of chairman Nick Sullivan, out of the under-18s side was a motivating factor behind the dismissal.

Tonbridge immediately rubbished the claims, saying in a statement: "On Monday, October 3, the board ratified its decision to dismiss Barry Jeffrey from his post at Tonbridge Angels FC.

"The decision was taken due to his continued misconduct and does not involve any allegations regarding Nick Sullivan’s step son.

"If Jack Moore does or does not play in TAFC’s under-18s team, it is a football management decision and not a personal one taken by the chairman."

On Thursday, Mr Sullivan declined to add to the statement but said he hoped the matter was now closed and the club could continue with what has so far been a successful season, with the Angels first team unbeaten at the top of the Ryman League, Division 1.

Mr Jeffrey was unavailable for comment.
