Tonbridge are back in business after Sonny Miles’ injury-time goal beat Bostik Premier leaders Dorking.

Angels’ 1-0 victory ended a run of three league defeats and moved them back up to second place, a point off the top.

They released Sammy Knott and Liam King before the game, signing former Ebbsfleet and Crewe midfielder Michael West on a month’s loan from Eastbourne.

Manager Steve McKimm said: “The boys worked really hard and stepped up after a few harsh words in the week and last weekend.

“Letting a couple of players go has woken a few up – they know it’s not a comfort zone here.

“They’ve been downbeat over the last month because we’ve not been getting wins.

“You could see the relief on their faces when Sonny scored.

“At that stage you’d have taken a point at the league leaders so we were all over the moon to get the win.

“It’s happened to us when we conceded in the 93rd minute against Bognor and lost 2-1.

“There’ll be a few more of those this season, for and against.”

McKimm was pleased to get loan signing West over the line.

The deal had already been agreed when West turned out for Eastbourne in the FA Trophy at Dartford last Tuesday – which briefly concerned McKimm.

He said: “It was all in place but he had to play for Eastbourne as Sergio Torres was out injured for them.

“When I saw his name on the teamsheet I was just hoping he wouldn’t get injured.

“He came in and did well at Dorking and if the month goes well, who knows what might happen?

“It’ll come down to finances and what he wants and what Eastbourne want.

“For now, we’ve got him for the month and we can only worry about the games coming up.”

Tonbridge host sixth-placed Worthing on Saturday, the Rebels having beaten Angels on penalties in the League Cup a fortnight ago.

McKimm said: “Worthing are a good side. They pass and move well and we’ve got to match them and hopefully come out on top.”

Angels visit Corinthian Casuals on Tuesday night.
