Tonbridge Angels face key play-off clashes over Easter weekend

Positive thinking is the order of the day as Tonbridge face two play-off rivals over the long weekend.

Wins at Worthing on Good Friday and at home to Carshalton on Easter Monday would clinch Angels' place in the top five with a game to spare.

Steve McKimm's side lost 2-0 to champions Dorking last weekend - their second defeat in a row - but they remain third and are in good spirits going to fifth-placed Worthing.

Boss McKimm said: "We're as well equipped as anyone to finish in those play-offs.

"If you're there or thereabouts at this stage of the season you've got to fancy your chances.

"It's about being positive. When you start having negative thoughts and worrying about things, that's when you come a cropper.

"Everything's positive and we want to get ourselves over the line without relying on other clubs.

"It's important we get in the play-offs, for the club, for the supporters who've been fantastic, and for the players.

"Nothing's a given. We've got a four-point cushion and it's up to us to work extremely hard to get ourselves over the line.

"The best thing about it is everybody in that top eight or nine is playing each other in the last few games.

"There's sure to be twists and turns but if you beat the teams around you, you've got every right to be in there.

"Worthing's the next challenge. They're good at home, they get a big crowd in and it's up to us to start well and silence them."

Tonbridge had a good training session on Tuesday night, with Tom Beers back from injury, and that will hopefully stand them in good stead.

McKimm said: "You've got to train as you play. It's an old saying but I'm a big believer in that. You can't just switch it on and off.

"We've done well this week and I've always believed the harder you train, the easier a matchday is because you're focused, you understand what's required and you go out and do it."

Monday's opponents Carshalton have shot up the table on the back of seven wins in eight games but Angels aren't worried.

McKimm said: "They've hit a magical run of form, they're looking good at the minute.

"On momentum they'd be the ones to worry about in the play-offs but we only worry about ourselves.

"You respect other teams but you can't worry about them."
