Table-toppers topple Tonbridge

CONSOLATION GOAL: Luke Piscina

Yeading 2 Tonbridge Angels 1

STRIKER Luke Piscina was again on target for Tonbridge but it was not enough against ten-man Yeading.

Piscina scored with a neat swivel and shot after Danny Lye had flicked on Jon Beales’ long throw. But by this time Angels were already 2-0 down, due chiefly to some sloppy defending.

Tonbridge had started brightly with early shots to test Delroy Preddie in the home goal but fell behind to a swift counter-attack. Alex Stanley’s cross from the left was headed back across goal by Errol Telemaque and crept in at the far post.

Angels saw their opponents reduced to 10 men after a clash between Davis Haule and Danny Lye resulted in the Yeading man being dismissed for lashing out with an arm.

Tonbridge were again caught on the break just after half time. From their own corner, the Angels found themselves picking the ball out of their net when Campbell broke clear to fire past Turner to make it 2-0.

After Piscina’s strike, Matt Lee missed a great opportunity before Anthony Hogg had a chance to level the game with 15 minutes remaining but drilled his shot wide.

After the game Tonbridge's player-boss Tony Dolby said: "They’re not top of the league for nothing. They were very well organised in defence and midfield.

“We had a good go in the second half, and I’d like to think we could have got a point but it wasn’t to be on the day. Maybe we just lacked a little bit of quality.”
