Fire crews rushed out to a rubbish fire in Paddock Wood yesterday evening.

Nearly 50 tonnes of rubbish had caught alight, with flames visible to motorists driving near Hop Farm.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene just after 5.45pm, after a caller mistook the blaze for a building fire.

A fire service spokesman said: "On arrival, crews discovered some 50 tonnes of flytipped rubbish.

"As it was controlled burning, the fire was allowed to burn out."

Two fire engines were sent to the scene, with KFRS expected to return this morning for further checks.

We have approached Kent Police for comment.
