POLICE officers on patrol during the World Cup were called to a disturbance at Weatherspoon’s Opera House pub in Tunbridge Wells on Sunday shortly after the end of the England's game against Ecuador.

Three people were arrested and later charged in connection with the incident.

A 20-year-old Tonbridge man was charged with being drunk and disorderly and bailed to appear before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on July 5.

A 20-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells was charged with being drunk and disorderly and was bailed to appear before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on July 4.

A 20-year-old from Tonbridge was charged with unlawful violence and was bailed to appear before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on July 4.

Meanwhile, in Tonbridge, a 19-year-old man was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in River Lawn Road outside the SOS nightclub at 9.45pm. He man, of of no fixed address, was later charged with being drunk and disorderly and bailed to appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on July 5.

Also in Tonbridge, two 17-year-old boys were arrested for drunkenness in the Shipbourne Road area. One was later charged and bailed to appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on July 5 and the other was given a fixed penalty notice.

Sgt David Reynolds, drugs and alcohol co-ordinator for police in West Kent said: "These arrests should leave people in no doubt that we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour.

"Our intention is to ensure that the majority of people who want to enjoy the football matches can do so safely, without fear of violence.’

He added: "The details of those who were arrested have been passed to the Pubwatch schemes in both towns. This means they face an indefinite ban from licensed premises in the towns."
