Emergency crews rushed to Paddock Wood this morning after a caravan went up in flames.

Firefighters and police officers were called to the scene in Mile Oak Road, near the Elm Tree Pub, at around 9am.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire using hose reel jets.

"Everyone was accounted for and there were no reported casualties. The cause of the fire is not yet known."

It comes just weeks after multiple roads in the area were closed following reports a man doused himself with petrol in a five-hour stand-off with emergency crews.

Community carer Heidi Chadwick, 42, of Gibbet Lane, Horsmonden, said: "The caravan has been there for about a week and I believe it had been left abandoned.

"It was well alight when I went past and probably burnt some hedges. It's just a pile of ashes now."

Police have been contacted for comment.
